Saltburn Gill walk part 3 – Saltburn Gill

Added on 19th May 2016 by Daniel van den Toorn

Amongst the many thousands of bluebell bulbs that grow in Saltburn Gill there is rarely a white one. This is a genetic mutation that happens naturally whereby the plant is unable to make the blue pigment that colours the petals and so they remain white.

Ramsons, sometimes called wild garlic, grows best in damp ground which is why it is mainly found at the bottom of the Gill near the beck.
