Whitecliff and Clarkson’s Woods

Even before we enter the wood, from the viaduct, we are treated to a wealth of new blooms. The gorse is particularly lovely this year but this broom is every bit as beautiful and, arguably, more fragrantly scented.

The ox-eye daisies are returning our glances as we pass along.

Often regarded as an invasive pest but looking good in the sunshine on these barren slopes is the mouse-ear hawkweed.

The stony shale, used as re-enforcement for an unsafe viaduct pillar, seem to be ideal for the diminutive and abundant wild strawberries.
