Welcome to the Woodland Diaries Project
This project, funded by National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund, aims to use the inspiration of nature diaries to get people exploring and observing the ancient woodlands of East Cleveland over a twelve month period.
Nature loving citizens from across Redcar and Cleveland and beyond will be encouraged to help us create a lasting collective digital diary of three important woodlands: Saltburn Gill, Hagg Wood and Whitecliff/Clarkson’s wood. By uploading photographs, drawings, sketches and other observations of different woodland components from the tiniest element of the wood to the majesty of magnificent oaks the changing nature of the woodlands and its wildlife though the seasons will be revealed.
This project will document the evolving appearance and moods of the woods and raise awareness of the special nature of these rare ancient woodlands. The images from the project will be used to show case the woodlands for residents and visitors alike and inspire others to explore the natural heritage on their doorstep. The project will culminate with an exhibition at Loftus Town Hall.
