Just a few steps into the wood and we see sanicle and it keeps us company, in various stages of flowering, throughout our walk today.

Common in many places in the country but not so here, is the early purple orchid. I am delighted to report seeing significant numbers of these in this wood.

This red campion is so well infested with black smut on its anthers that it is dropping significant deposits on its lower petals.

Amongst the swathes of bluebells were one or two dressed in white.
